Fox and Lois Garney have been collaborating on ceramic pieces since 1972. They met in the Ceramics Dept. of San Jose State University where they discovered their mutual love of clay. After graduating with Bachelor of Art Degrees they opened their first studio, Foxlo Pottery, in Fresno, CA. There, they produced a line of ceramics that was exhibited in many galleries and gift shops across the United States. Foxlo has won many awards at Fine Art Festivals in California and Arizona.
Their work has evolved from production pottery to hand-carved and hand-painted pieces. Fox “throws” porcelain on the potter’s wheel, sometimes altering the shapes or adding handles before he hands it off to Lois. When the piece has partially dried, Lois carves her original designs inspired by nature using a variety of carving techniques that she has developed over her many years of working with clay. After bisque firing, they use a variety of glazes developed to enhance the carving. For his landscape pieces, Fox creates subtle forms in porcelain on the potter's wheel. Then applying combinations of glazes and multiple firings, unique and dramatic glaze effects are achieved creating dazzling landscapes. All of their fine art pottery is high fired. They reside in Cambria, CA, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
